Incomindios Lippuner Scholarship 2021: The Winner

We are very pleased to present this year's winner of the Incomindios Lippuner Youth Scholarship 2021:


Flavio Ayuso, student - a young Mayan from Muna, Mexico!


Flavio Ayuso, a young Maya from Muna, a small community in southern Yucatan, is a sociology student at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). For the past three years, he has supported Mayan communities in agrarian processes to defend their territory against megaprojects and real estate developments that violate the collective rights of Mayan communities.

He is currently supporting the agrarian process of the community of Ixil in Yucatan in defending their ejido territory against businessmen who want to expropriate more than three thousand hectares of very well-preserved virgin forest.

His topics of interest and research are: Agrarian Law and Agrarian Sociology.

In 2018, he received an honorable mention in the "Premio Nacional de Ensayo sobre la Constitución Política del Estado de Yucatán" organized by the Yucatan State Justice Department. He has published several mini-essays in the University of Mexico Journal's Youth Blog.
