Supporting Indigenous voices in global climate and human rights advocacy


One of the ways in which Incomindios fulfils its mission to promote and support Indigenous rights and environmental justice is through the Incomindios Lippuner Scholarship. Established in memory of the late Eva Lippuner, who, together with her husband Heinz Lippuner, was among the founding members of Incomindios in 1974, this scholarship honours Eva’s lifelong dedication to Indigenous rights and environmental justice.  Through her vision, this initiative since 2019 continues to empower Indigenous students whose academic and advocacy work contributes to justice, sustainability, and equality. We remain deeply grateful to the Lippuner family for sustaining this legacy of support.



Purpose and Impact


The Incomindios Lippuner Scholarship supports outstanding Indigenous students from North, Central, and South America as well as the Caribbean pursuing academic work related to Indigenous rights, environmental justice, and community-led research.It aims to strengthen Indigenous voices in global climate and human rights discussions by providing both financial and institutional support to students committed to making a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

The scholarship provides a financial award of USD 5,000 to assist with academic expenses and living costs, alongside a series of collaboration opportunities designed to help recipients amplify their research and advocacy.


Collaboration and Opportunities


The scholarship is offered in collaboration with the Centre for Indigenous and Settler Colonial Studies (CISCS) at the University of Kent and the University of York, with additional engagement through Incomindios’ networks in Europe. 


Throughout the scholarship year, recipients will:


  • Participate in a remote internship with Incomindios, contributing to projects that promote Indigenous rights and environmental justice.

  • Deliver a virtual guest lecture in partnership with Incomindios and the Centre for Indigenous and Settler Colonial Studies at the University of Kent and the University of York.

  • Publish two articles on their academic research through Incomindios platforms.



Eligibility Criteria


To be eligible, applicants must:


  • Identify as an Indigenous person from the Caribbean, North, Central, or South America.

  • Be currently enrolled in, or have a confirmed place in, a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD programme in a relevant field (such as Indigenous rights, environmental justice, anthropology, or law).

  • Demonstrate active involvement in Indigenous rights and environmental advocacy.

  • Provide a reference letter from an Indigenous Elder, and/or academic supervisor.

  • Be willing to engage in public outreach, including the publication of two short articles and participation in online events.

  • Consent to the respectful use of their image and academic information on Incomindios’ platforms for scholarship promotion and reporting purposes.

Legacy of the Lippuner Scholarship


Since its creation, the Incomindios Lippuner Scholarship has supported Indigenous scholars who have gone on to lead important advocacy, research, and environmental initiatives.
